Silver Award Girl Scouts

Have you ever looked around your neighborhood or school and wondered how you could make a change for the better? Going for the Girl Scout Silver Award—the highest award a Girl Scout Cadette can earn—gives you the chance to do big things and make your community better in the process.

Current 8th-Grade Cadettes: The deadline for completing your Silver Award has been extended until December 31, 2020 for inclusion in the 2021 Honor Reception.

You may pursue your Silver Award if you meet the following criteria:

  • You're in 6 - 8 grade (or equivalent)
  • You're registered as a Girl Scout Cadette
  • You've completed a Cadette Journey

Girl Scout Silver Award Steps at a Glance

  1. Identify an issue you care about
  2. Build your Girl Scout Silver Award team or decide to go solo
  3. Explore your community
  4. Pick your Silver Award project
  5. Develop your project
  6. Make a plan and put it into motion Reflect, share your story, and celebrate
Silver Award Quick Facts
  • All of the requirements for the Silver Award must be completed by Girl Scout Cadettes (6 - 8 grade) by September 30 of the year they leave 8th grade.
  • Check GSSEM’s Calendar of Events for dates and locations of in-person high-awards trainings. Monthly call in chats are also available.
  • The Silver Award Take Action Project requires a minimum of 50 hours per Girl Scout.
  • Leaders or advisors helping with the Silver Award decide if the girls have fulfilled the requirements and have chosen an appropriate project. There is no pre-approval by GSSEM.
  • Submit all completed Silver Award Final Reports written in a girls own words to GSSEM, 1333 Brewery Park Blvd. Suite 500, Detroit, MI 48207.
  • Girls who successfully complete a Silver Award Final Report are invited to GSSEM’s annual Honor Reception held the first Sunday of May. Silver Award Pins are presented at the reception.
