GSSEM FIRST

Due to COVID-19, the 2020-2021 FIRST season schedule has changed.

Team registration deadlines:

  • November 1, 2020 - FIRST LEGO League Challenge (formerly FLL)
  • March 15, 2021 - FIRST LEGO League Explore (formerly JFLL)

Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan (GSSEM) and FIRST have teamed up to provide an exciting adventure in robotics for our Girl Scouts! Teams develop unique solutions to a challenge throughout the summer and fall, and then they present their work at GSSEM's FIRST Robotics Expo in the spring.

Due to the generous support from our sponsors, GSSEM is able to cover all fees for team registration, robotics kits, and admission to the FIRST Robotics Expo for our teams and their families.

About GSSEM FIRST

GSSEM has partnered with FIRST of Michigan, an organization dedicated to advancing the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) by inspiring students in Michigan.

Focused on building an interest in science and engineering in children, the FIRST program series is designed to capture children's curiosity and direct it toward discovering the possibilities of improving the world around them.

FIRST LEGO League Explore (Grades K - 3)

FLL EXPLORE THEME: PLAYMAKERS
This season, girls will explore how to get people moving!

Teams will brainstorm and answer questions like: How can we get people excited to exercise with sports or physical activities? How can we make exercise more fun?

Teams will also work together to build a robotic model of a better building to present at the GSSEM FIRST Robotics Expo in the spring.

FIRST LEGO League Challenge (Grades 4 - 5)

FLL CHALLENGE THEME: REPLAY
This season, girls will explore how to get people moving!

Teams will brainstorm and answer questions like: How can we get people excited to exercise with sports or physical activities? How can we make exercise more fun?

Teams will also work together to build a robotic model of a better building to present at the GSSEM FIRST Robotics Expo in the spring.
